Hong Kong chief executive candidate John Lee has said the blocking of his campaign’s YouTube channel will not affect his run for the leadership position. He has described the move as “unreasonable”, calling it an attempt at “bullying” him. YouTube’s parent company Google has defended the suspension, saying it is in line with US sanction laws. Mr Lee was among 11 top Hong Kong and Beijing officials to be sanctioned by the US in 2020, after China’s central government imposed a sweeping security law aimed at snuffing out dissent.
