There are plans to further strengthen the Maintenance of Parents Act to better meet the needs of the elderly and the community. The Act serves to provide elderly persons, who are unable to maintain themselves adequately, with a legal channel to seek maintenance from their children. A workgroup of nine Members of Parliament has been formed to review the Act, which was last updated in 2010. Consultations with stakeholders will commence in January 2022. It will table recommendations at the end of the year.
