The US is said to be planning a military aid package — worth up to $500 million — for India to reduce its reliance on Russian weapons. That would make India one of the largest recipients of such aid, behind Israel and Egypt. A senior US official said this is part of a much larger initiative to court India as a long-term security partner. India is the world’s largest buyer of Russian weapons. It has spent $25 billion buying Russian military hardware over the past decade — around six times more than its military purchases from the US.
