Dismay and disbelief in Sri Lanka, with veteran politician Ranil Wickremesinghe reappointed as the country’s new prime minister — his sixth time in the job. Experience aside, critics perceive Mr Wickremesinghe as part of the establishment blamed for the country’s ills. The 73-year-old insisted he has enough support to govern the country. But when he approached several legislators to join him, at least three opposition parties rejected him, saying his premiership lacks legitimacy. Opposition lawmakers are demanding fresh elections.
