Health Minister Ong Ye Kung has said that Singapore is unlikely to have a two-party political system like those in the US and the United Kingdom. He notes that unlike larger countries where political views can differ greatly depending on where one lives, Singaporeans do not have vastly different views. He added that Singapore has an accountable government that serves its people and ensures policies are acceptable for the majority. Mr Ong made the observations at the Singapore Perspectives forum, where he was asked if the need for a strong state is compatible with having a strong opposition.
