Shanghai hopes COVID tide turning as daily new cases dip below 20,000

The tide appears to be turning in Shanghai’s COVID-19 situation. The financial hub reported nearly 19,000 infections on April 20, well below the peak of 28,000 from about a week ago. No new infections have been reported in two districts outside quarantine areas. 12 million residents previously banned from leaving their homes have been allowed to venture outdoors. More than 600 firms have been identified for early work resumption, while some factories have restarted operations.
