Malaysia will only hold a general election when it has completely recovered from the pandemic and its impacts. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said while there is pressure to hold the GE soon, the government is determined to ensure the country’s economy recovers first. The current Malaysian parliamentary term ends in June 2023. There have been increasing calls from Barisan Nasional politicians for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to dissolve parliament and hold the GE this year.
