From mid-2023, two out of three supermarket outlets across Singapore will charge a minimum of five cents for each disposable carrier bag. Supermarkets will also have to publish information on the number of bags issued, the proceeds received and how they are used. This is part of the government’s drive to reduce the waste sent to Singapore’s landfill by 30% by 2030.
