Inmates allowed out of prison for skills upgrading under amended laws

Inmates who are based outside of prison while serving part of their sentences will not be allowed to drink alcohol, consume or possess any controlled drug. These are in addition to current conditions such as electronic monitoring, mandatory reporting and curfew hours. At the same time, they will not be identified as inmates when attending courses or training along with the public. Eligible inmates can now undergo skills training and education in the community at the tail end of their sentences. Another amendment to the Prisons Act is the redacting or withholding of correspondences that might affect the security of prisons, or safety of inmates.
