After a two-month dry spell, China’s drought-hit areas have experienced heavy rains that have forced more than 100,000 people to be evacuated. The extreme weather events are also having an impact on more than two million hectares of arable land and 350,000 livestock, which could further push up food prices. Already, fresh fruit prices have jumped 17% on-year, while the cost of vegetables have gone up by 13%.
