China raises concerns about new security pact between Canberra and Tokyo

China has said it hopes the new security pact between Australia and Japan will not affect regional peace. Tokyo and Canberra are set to sign the treaty at a virtual summit on Jan 6 to beef up defence and security cooperation. It is believed the deal aims to expand efforts by the US, Japan, India and Australia to counter China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region. Beijing said bilateral agreements should not harm any third party’s interest.
