A growing COVID-19 outbreak in China and harsh restrictions have prompted officials to postpone the Asian Games. The exact dates will be announced later, but should be held sometime in 2023. The Asian Games was to have hosted over 11,000 athletes from 44 nations and territories — second in size only to the Summer Olympics. Host city Hangzhou had completed all 56 competition venues in April. The Olympic Council of Asia said the decision was taken after considering the COVID-19 pandemic and the size of the games.
