The Solomon Islands is attempting to allay concerns among neighbouring countries about its security pact with China. Prime minister Manasseh Sogavare has insisted the agreement will not undermine regional stability. Solomon Islands lawmakers have urged him to publicly disclose the terms of the deal. The US, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are worried that China could potentially establish a military presence in Solomon Islands. Meanwhile, China has questioned the US’ intentions for raising concerns over the pact.
