Japan and Australia have signed a landmark defence agreement, in what’s seen as a bulwark against China’s rising economic and military might. Canberra said the Reciprocal Access Agreement will allow seamless work on defence and humanitarian operations. It’s Japan’s second such agreement with another country. Tokyo’s only other military pact is with the US. Senior Associate Professor Stephen Nagy from the International Christian University in Tokyo shared how the defence deal will impact regional security.
