Amendments passed to Gambling Duties Bill, tighter laws for those in betting business

Amendments to the Gambling Duties Bill were passed in Parliament on Jan 10. There are now tighter laws for those in the betting business. These could see fines go up for filing incorrect returns on proceeds from gambling and sweepstakes. Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said Singapore’s public policy position on gambling remains unchanged, and the government will set aside sufficient resources to deal with these issues such as problem gambling. He added that the changes will not impact small-scale vendors who sell lottery tickets.
