Bangkok (Thailand), July 6 (CityNewsR): Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Samak Sundaravej affirmed that there are no efforts being made to protect former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra from various trials surrounding him. The PM said that many parties are seeking to create a connection between the People Power Party and the disbanded Thai Rak Thai party, but assured that both parties are completely different. He said that he would not allow the Democrat Party and People’s Alliance for Democracy to incite the public over such claims.

Mr. Samak also said that his appearance on PTV was to clarify several matters and should not be construed as an action against ASTV. He said that he did not understand why the Democrat Party would like to use the issue a catalyst against him.
